Hey guys.  So as I'm sure you all already know, music plays a huge role in my life, so I thought it might be cool to start posting a musician or a band of the week.  This week my pick is John Fogerty. He's an oldie but definitely a goody!

A lot of people aren't schooled on him but his music is definitely incredible -- I've been
obsessing over a lot of his songs lately.  I don't listen to much country music but I love good country rock 'n' roll, which is definitely the genre I would classify his music under.

Here are three songs that I recommend you check out.

  1. It Ain't Right
  2. Vanz Kant Danz
  3. Don't You Wish It Was True
Here's the music video for Don't You Wish It Was True.

Let me know what you think.  Do you have any good country rock suggestions for me?

Comments

I've never listened to John fogerty ALONE before but I've listened to Creedence for a while and their pretty good , but I like a little more metal or hardrock =].

You should listen to Bon Iver (Skinny Love). These are very sweet songs, not really rock but so much beautiful. And Vampire Weekend too (this is totally different). These are really funny songs to dance :D Try A-Punk and Oxford Comma.
I hope you'll like it !!

You may call it country rock, but you're just about the only one. His music is more influenced by zydeco and cajun music. Country? Sorry. Maybe you should learn a little about his musical history.

i'm not the person who really listens to country music. but i'll check that songs out later. i love stuff like panic at the disco and paramore. but "folin' around" by panic at the disco is a country song. love it. and "fences" by paramore has also a country touch. so these are my suggestion.

* "folkin' around" sry

Buffalo Springfield has some good songs, so does creedence clearwater revival... i love 70s rock music and rock country!

Where do you get your vintage band tshirts? Online or in vintage stores? im heading to NYC soon, any good vintage stores you can recommend there, that are reasonably priced?

xoxo

I like listeing to all types of music, but country is defintley my least favorite. His songs are kind of catchy though. But I recommend 'Regina Spektor'. I discoverd her late 2007, and she is very lternative, but I think you will like her...here are some of her best songs that you should check out

1. Samson
2. The Call
3. Fidelity
4. On the Radio
5. Us

Those are defintley my favorites, but she has alot of other songs too. But you may not like it at first but she grows on you and now I love her.

PS. Are you actually doing Melorse Place? Can you please to a post on it, cause that Ugly Betty rumour awhile ago never got answered. Did you actually test for a role, or was that a rumor? Also I hear your doing a film called 'The Science of Cool', do you have any info on that, taht you could tell us?

hey once again i probably dont read this but i also love music it always touches on my emotions and love musicals im not sure if you have seen it yet you probably have its moulin rouge its set and paris and though most of the song are reused tht somebody else wrote there is one tht they wrote and with the acting it rly has effect on your emoution please email me i lov your acting but am not obbsesed with you

Hello Mischa,

I listened to the John Fogerty songs that you suggested, thanks, I enjoyed them. I am not certain on what is defined as country rock n' roll, sorry. However, hearing about what you do enjoy in past comments, I would suggest that you should listen to the albums "Born To Run" and "The Rising" by Bruce Springsteen. For country songs I enjoy Picture(Kid Rock and Sheryl Crow), 10,0000 Miles(Mary Chapin Carpenter), and Where Were You When The World Stopped Turning(Alan Jackson).
My e-mail is patrick_ely2000@yahoo.com , if you could wright to me telling me what you thought of my suggestions, I would really like that. Maybey I could give you some more suggestions?

Hey Mischa,
so great to hear from you again. Artist of the week is such a great idea! I can't wait to hear some more songs from John Fogerty and many other suggestions to come!

Hi again, Mischa!

Good to see you love John Fogerty! Creedence Clearwater Revival are one of my favourite bands - Travellin' Band is one of my favourite songs of theirs, but I love most of them. As for his solo stuff, I think my favourite is probably Rockin' All Over The World. And I agree with Ian too - Lynyrd Skynyrd are a must for you to check out if you don't already know about them.

(Hmmmm..... My brother's name is Ian, and we both love CCR and Skynyrd - I'll have to have a word with him to see if he's started posting here too!!!....)

Others for you to check out? Well, you already know about The Eagles, so there's no point mentioning them. Buffalo Springfield? Yes, definitely - 'For What It's Worth' is still such a relavant song today. If you love Lynyrd Skynyrd, then you'd probably like 38 Special and Molly Hatchett too, as they're both pretty similar. If you want something a bit more on the 'country' side of things, then how about John Cougar Mellencamp? I also love Canned Heat, who I guess you could class as being quite 'country-ish'. And I know some may classify them differently, but the early Grateful Dead were quite country-ish too. There's also The Band, and Lone Justice, who I quite like too...

But one band I'd REALLY recommend you check out is The Georgia Satellites - They're a really fantastic live band who list their two main influences as Chuck Berry and Jack Daniels!! They fuse good old rock'n'roll with southern country rock, and the end result really is something special!

Well, thanks so much for getting me thinking about country rock once more - I'm now off to listen to my copy of 'Centerfield', which I've not played for far too long!!!.....

Looking forward as always to the next update.

All my love always,

Adrian.

Mischa, Hi,

It's cool of you to start posting a musician or a band of the week.
I also like music. Music has saved my life. Listening to music, I could lift myself a lot of times when I was knocked down.
However, I'm not familiar with country music. I even do not understand what country-rock is. Now I'm learning it from wikipedia. Wikipedia says the visibility of country music is low in Japan. Accordingly, I don't think I can suggest good country rock to you for the time being. I'm sorry.

Heyy girl,

i figured id reccomend some less known artists that fall under that specific genre:

1.Lucero (not the latino band)is a hick/country/bar band. key songs:she's just that kind of girl, anjalee, bike riders, last night in town, kiss the bottle

2.stephen kellogg & the sixers is a country/folk/pop group.key songs: 4th of july,my sweet charade, maria, see you later see you soon.

3.whiskeytown is a band ryan adams used to play in. i'd reccomend listening to "jacksonville skyline".ryan adams&the cardinals is also good, too. ryan adams in general is just an amazing artist.i reccomend his cd entilted "gold"

Hi Misch, I couldn't write here lately but I'm back hahah. I don't really like that kind of music, I prefer listening Oasis, the beatles, stone roses, def leppard, kiss, and a lot of bands. I always tell you that I'm from argentina but I don't know if you read it (and also I don't think you remember every single person who writes here haha), you know, rock in my country is amazing, you should listen it. Andres Calamaro, Charly Garcia, Seru Giran, there are so many good bands here... My fav ARGENTINIAN song is Seminare, by Seru Giran, you should listen it, it's soooo beautiful.
Well, love from argentina, as always. I'd love knewing (is that right? I don't know haha) if you read my comments because I write them with a lot of love hahaha.

Hi Mischa,

I highly recommend Keith Urban. His music fits perfectly to the country/rock n roll genre you're looking for. Check out all his albums Golden Road, Be here, Love Pain & the whole crazy thing and his Greatest Hits and i promise you will fall in love with his music. He has a new album Defying Gravity coming out March 31st also. Also you can't go past the ultimate in country/rock n roll- Johnny Cash. Although rock n roll was a bit different in his time his music is still very much worth listening to.
Hope that helps!
